Has anyone else been following Feya Hoffmeister's race around Australia?
What an amazing trip - although amazing trips seem to be standard for Freya. She is also being covered by the magazine Sea Kayaker and supported by manty companies - most notably, Epic.
Obviously an amazingly gifted and driven woman I have nothing but respect for what she can accomplish. I'm not sure I'd pack up and leave the family (including young son) for 12 months though......
Has anyone paddled an Epic 18x or 18x Sport before? They look like a pretty nice ride on paper and the skis are clearly awesome machines. I've just never seen one of their touring boats on the water.
Basically, someone's gone and put the biggest sail they can find on a Prijon sea kayak and let 'er rip. The first one's in crappy weather and the second one's on flat.
Just foudn this one - very corny commentator but some awesome video footage of Killer Whales - especially toward the end where they are literally metres, if that, from the kayaks, diving right under them and checking out the guys on top.
And this one is a little less spectacular in terms of video footage but the whales here are Blue Whales - biggest animal to ever live on the planet!!! Unreal!!!
Have fun!
PS. Has anyone else had the cahnce to apddle with anything interesting?
I know I've made a post about Freya Hoffmeister before but I think you'll agree this one was worth putting up here. I don't know much about rolling yet but this looks pretty impressive to me:
The dude in this next one is all over the Internet doing some pretty crazy stuff. He shows you some exercises for off the water which look pretty entertaining and then gets in his boat and let's just say he's good
Check it out:
And just in case that's not impressive enough, this dude goes end over end a few times and still catches the waves in!!!

There is something to be said for the beauty and elegence of a hand made wooden kayak finished to perfection.
From what I can gather, there are two primary ways for making wodden kayaks - "Strip Built" and "Stitch and Glue". For a great description of these and "Skin on Frame" kayaks, check out this link: www.fastq.com/~jrschroeder/whybuild.htm
Here are some great flicks showing a version of how to:
This one is stich and glue
