Following on from my failure (see the photos & details in the trip report) to achieve a succesfull enough outcome from the March trip, some people think I need more organisational practice so they have got me organizing another weekend. The dates are now locked in and I'm told its the first weekend of the School holidays. He knows because he enjoyed the last weekend so much he's planning on bringing the family and staying on for a whole week.

If you are looking to get out of the Canberra winter for a couple of days in early July 3rd and 4th to be exact. Merimbula might (probably will) be cold but the water will be clean and maybe we can get 9 up on a wave.

The plan has changed (winter timings and optional BBQ), be there at 9:30am, go paddling, come back, eat pizza or have a BBQ and repeat the next day.

This isn't a Club outing becasuse we don't have a qualified Instructor, Coach or Guide amongst us. Its simply a self organising bunch of consenting people turning up at a pre arranged location to indulge as a group in physical activity.

Previously I suggested that a ski or some other seaworthy craft was essential now I'm not so sure. Based on the last trip I reckon you could have a good time in anything that floats. Given that the lake is there, you could easily take a flatwater boat and have a very enjoyable paddle, come back, eat pizza or have a BBQ and repeat the next day. A relaxed attitude was what everyone brought to the last one and I didn't see anyone who wasn't having a good time. Its still definitely not suitable for people allergic to salt water, pizza or laughter.

Why don’t you do more than think about it? With all the notice, you’ve plenty of time to go out to Wetspot and take advantage of our local vendor during his quiet season.

Sounds awesome Tom!!! The last one was sensational and I'm sure this one will be too. We'll all be there and this time I'll be sporting my new sea kayak rather than a ski. It should be here in the next couple of weeks so I better get into some rolling practise between now and then Jay is also keen to catch some more waces in her little Carolina 14 which is awesome.

Thanks for organising this again.

Talk soon.

The whole family is talking about going to Merrimbula. Looks like we will all be there for the weekend, with three of the kids and I staying for the week to hone up on our cold weather surfing skills.
I will be taking the sea kayak, surf kayak and SUP to play with.

I'm just back from checking things out down there. It was cold and windy but the water was not only much cleaner like you could see what was in it but it was much warmer than LBG.

I was only out for just over an hour and I got buckets of rain and 20+ knot gusts for half of that. Despite wearing only a pair of neoprene shorts and a short sleeve top, I was much warmer than my last few outings on LBG.

There is something there for everyone from flat water beginners through to those who can handle a wave or two.

Hi all

yes its this weekend.

I've had a few dropouts but the hardy souls who are coming are sure to have a good time.

We've people staying at the Black Dolphin - Motel, Tween Waters - Caravan Park and with me. I'm going down Friday night and should be there from about 7ish others are coming down Sat morning.

I can be contacted through the Forum (my mobile should be visible if you are a member) or most of the folk at Wetspot are up on the details if you are interested and don't know the details yet. Basically Beach St about 9:30am Sat morning

Looks like another BBQ at my place Sat evening followed by indoor activity and Hot Chocolates for those who want them. I don't know what movies are on but if all else fails, I'm sure Alan has some kayaking DVDs and I've got latest Startrek movie.

CU there

The girls and I are heading down on Friday night to set up the caravan. I have the following week off, but the three of us will be staying down at the Caravan Park until Tuesday morning.
Trish and the boys will be down Saturday afternoon after she finishes work and going back on Sunday.
It is looking fine for the weekend.
Taking down as much as possible making sure the wetsuits are packed for the girls on the SUP.
Looking forward to getting away for a couple of days to relax as well as some play.
See you all down south on the coast.

I've just checked the forecasts - there are a few. So I'm guessing its going to be something like

Air Temps 5-15
Wind SW to about 20 Knots
No rain and
The water should be in the high teens

Not exactly tropical but Luxury for anyone whos been swimming in LBG lately

Bring your warnm gear. BBQ on Sat night at my place followed by a consensus choice of movie.

I'll be there from 7 Friday night

Mate, I'm pumped!!! I've had heaps on with end of fnancial year so no time to really think about it. Now that's all dealt with....... bing it on!!!

If anyone's interested, the Sea Breeze web site is usually pretty good for coast weather from a couple of days out. Follow this link and see Merimbula about half way down. www.seabreeze.com.au/graphs/nsw5.asp

Is anyone else surfing a sea kayak? I know there are a lot of skis coming and some white water boats but from what i can gather not many sea kayaks.

It's going to be awesome. I can't wait!
