Thanks for an awesome weekend Tom. So very simple and so VERY AWESOME!!!
Here's the write up of the trip and photos you put together.
Skiers at Merimbula 20/21 March 2010
Well the weekend is now done and dusted. Not that there was any dust out on the water. I promised John an article for Blazing Paddles and now we have Club Forum it should also go there. Hopefully, in future, people can check the forums regularly to find out what has been happening and free up our editor so he can do more paddling.
Since I was the “organizer” it falls to me to admit that the weekend was a pass and only just. If you recall the original post suggesting the weekend “The plan is simple be there at 8:30, go paddling, come back, eat pizza and repeat the next day”. Since we weren’t there at 8:30 and didn’t eat pizza, that’s about a 60% mark.
While I’m forced to admit my organizational skills only rate at 60% that doesn’t mean the weekend was a total disaster. Not one of the 25 people in attendance was allergic to salt water or laughter in fact, everyone got involved and contributed in some way with most actively paddling.
Several of us saw a penguin and there was plenty of paddling done very much to the detriment of partying. Saturday evening we had a BBQ and an early night to allow for plenty of recovery time.
Thanks to Floss, her shutterbugging skills and the miracle of digital technology, a thousand words is easy.
As always when you get a group of boys together, there are girls trying to show off as evidenced by this massively overloaded paddlecraft:
Enough of that girly stuff and onto the real paddling the important manly stuff that we all went to Merimbula to do:
Maybe I should mention that Rachel was there and showed everyone else a thing or two about paddling.
Jess on the other hand spent a lot of time managing sea urchins.
Amy might be smiling here but the forced grin on Scott’s face is clear evidence that he knew rolling the boat in the surf and dropping it on his wife’s head would have consequences.
What could be better than this I thought when we had 6 up surfing on a wave L to R James, Justin, Scott, Tom, Rachel & Garbo
I found out not long after having the thought when we got 8 up and on the same wave L to R Todd, Justin, James, Kiwi, Garbo, Tom, Scott & Rachel.
I’ve just used a few of Floss’s pics and unfortunately not everyone who was there is here. Apologies to all I couldn’t use.
Apparently, a 60% pass mark is not enough for some and they think I need more practice so they have got me organizing another weekend soon. Stay tuned if you are looking to get out of the Canberra winter for a couple of days in early July exact dates TBA. Merimbula might (probably will) be cold but the water will be clean and maybe we can get 9 up on a wave.
The plan hasn’t changed, be there at 8:30, go paddling, come back, eat pizza and repeat the next day.
As before, a ski or some other seaworthy craft is essential. A relaxed attitude, ability to self rescue or willingness to learn will contribute to a great weekend. Not suitable for people allergic to salt water, pizza or laughter.
Why don’t you do more than think about it? With 3 months notice, you’ve plenty of time to go out to Wetspot and look at your options.
