The Burley Griffin Canoe Club will be running Introduction to Kayaking courses
Courses will be held throughout summer: February 11th & 12th (fully booked), 3rd & 4th March (almost full) plus, possibly, 10th & 11th March, 2012.
Please register your interest by e-mailing the club.
The charge for the 2-day course is $65 per adult, $50 per junior (and for current BGCC members, $45 per adult and $30 per junior.) All participants who have received confirmation of a place on a course will need to pay for the course one week prior to the course.
The aim of the course will be to introduce you to the sport of kayaking and to deliver the skills necessary to use a recreational kayak safely, in calm, flat-water conditions close to shore.
The course is run over the 2 days and will commence at 8.30 a.m. till around 10.30 a.m.
The course will cover a short introduction to a variety of boats and paddles, safety issues, entry and exit techniques, basic paddling techniques, what to do in a capsize.
Saturday we will practice technique on the shore then try a variety of boats in front of the beach area. We will then take a short paddle up the river. Sunday we will revise some of the techniques learnt on Saturday and go for a longer paddle to the Carillon if possible, practicing a forward stroke and also learning some other basic strokes.
Boats, paddles, PFD’s will be supplied, you will need to wear something comfortable which you won’t mind getting wet. Please bring a water to drink, sunscreen, a hat and a change of clothes.
Can you please confirm if you are interested in attending as numbers are strictly limited.

Ladies Paddling Group has recommenced for the 2011-12 season and will be on Tuesday mornings 7 a.m. (on the water by 7:15!!). We'll do a bit of technique and a bit of exercise (nothing too strenuous, just to get the heart rate up a little), and hopefully find some new paddling companions. 5 - 7 km, please let me know if you require a club boat. Suit beginners/recreational paddlers.

Members,
The Burley Griffin Canoe Club provides limited opportunities for members to access the club facilities at Molonglo reach for the purpose of rackage of boats.
Those members wishing to access rackage in the shed will be required to submit an application form to the Boat Captain. The application form will be forwarded to the member on request. The Boat Captain will then review the application and where applicable will make a decision based on the application. Each case will be assessed and if necessary a waiting list created. If successful, the member making application will be advised of costs and offered a period of time of rackage suitable to their needs.
Application form for a shed key is available from Forms on the left-hand menu, Club keys will be allocated in a similar process as above, however applicants are requested to apply and collect a key at one of our regular monthly meetings.
In both instances members may be required to provide proof of identity and references to the Boat Captain in support of their applications. The club reserves the right to manage all craft and equipment kept on premises and only financial members are given the privilege of storage.
It should be noted that members who are not financial can be asked to remove their boat from the shed and return their key.
