Flat Water in Canberra has been very successful over the last few years. Canberra caters for paddlers of all levels, from beginner to state and national levels. Regular competitions are held state wide, which gives paddlers the chance to improve and gain experience.
The discipline of flatwater incorporates time trials and training. Additionally, members may be interested in touring, or annual events. Each year Burley Griffin Canoe Club hosts the Burley Griffin Bash, and the 24 Hour Relay Challenge.
Opportunities exist to paddle competitively, or to race in a social manner through the Mothers' Day Mayhem, and the Fathers' Day Paddle.

Handicap Races:
Handicap races are held on the Molonglo River at Molonglo Reach, off Morshead Drive, near Duntroon Military College.
During the period of the Eastern Summer Daylight Savings Time, 10 km time trials are held each Wednesday evening with the first boats off at 5:45 p.m. All paddlers are welcome to enter the time trials to paddle either the full 10 km, 5 km, or even 3 or 8 km - depending on your ability!
After the paddle, everyone is welcome to stay for a barbecue meal of sausages and salad, with cake and chat and perhaps coffee or tea and talk.
During the cooler months, handicap races are held each Sunday morning, with the first boats off at 9:45 a.m. and faster boats off later, so that everyone has a chance of crossing the line in first place, at about 11 a.m. Distances of 10, 8, 5 and 3 km also available for these races.
